One thing I've been thinking of adding to the plugin is to include different latency options so that for occasions that only require small phase correction you can choose a low latency option.

Sadowick made a video comparing latency compension in Bitwig and Live that demonstrates the issue, you can find it here. Personally I'm using Bitwig which seems to have extremely good latency compensation so I haven't experienced any problems, but I've heard that Ableton Live for example has pretty poor latency compensation which might result in the plugin not working so well and could result in some delay being audible by simply inserting the plugin. I should note here that some DAWs deal with latency compensation better than others. If you are finding you need large corrections then you should try the invert phase option first to see if that gets you closer to your goal with a shorter correction. If you are applying large corrections however then you might start to hear the delay. For small phase corrections the shift in timing should be imperceptible since you are likely only altering the delay by a hand-full of samples. When you are phase correcting by dragging the waveform left and right what you are really doing is altering the delay time to be shorter or longer than the reported latency which moves the audio forwards or backwards in time. Therefore the audio should play at the exact same time when the plugin is inserted. It's pretty simple really, the plugin reports a certain amount of latency to the DAW and has a fully wet delay line with the same amount of delay time as the reported latency.

With regards to the delay, first I should explain some things about how KickFace works. I'll probably take another look at that at some point since it annoys me too that not being saved. I think at the time I was unsure of the best way to save those connections since I was worried about reconciling what happens if the instance you're connected to is removed or changed whilst the current instance isn't loaded or whatever. I'll take a look at making it re-sizable or adding some kind of size options.Ĭurrently the remote channel isn't saved as part of the plugin state so it wont keep your connections. I appreciate though it probably looks tiny on a large monitor. I usually do my music production on my laptop so I made it small intentionally for myself.
